All eyes have been on the U.S. election and the co-occuring spike in cases. If we were smart, we would be watching the hospitals instead. That is where the rubber meets the road in terms of the next phase of this pandemic. For sure, health care workers are doing better at keeping COVID-19 patients alive. The rest of us aren’t doing our job by keeping the disease in check and flattening-the-curve so that hospitals can keep up. As daily cases go through the roof, hospitals increasingly are the tip of the spear. What happens there will determine just how much unnecessary suffering and death there will be in the coming months.
